Michelle Shares Her Thoughts On USA Beef

Support your local farmer, support your community, and support families in your area. When we buy beef from large box stores, we are funding those companies rather than supporting small, local farms. Our choices directly impact our government. We have power in the USA with our voices and our wallets.

Currently, the highest levels of government have stated that farmers need to lower their prices. While I understand that prices are high, it’s important to note that for the first time ever, beef farmers are making a small profit. Raising a cow and getting it to market for processing requires significant time and money. Just like everyone else, farmers deserve to earn a living wage.

In my area, USDA-processed ground beef from a local farmer costs $6.50 per pound, while the large box store prices fluctuate between $4.75 and $7.50 per pound. The cheaper option often contains more fat. To sustainably raise and process beef in the USA, we need time to rebuild our herd numbers. For years, prices have been low, which has led many farmers to thin their herds. Now, with an increased demand for beef, we need to support each other and recognize that everyone deserves a living wage.

Let’s examine some of our favorite snack foods: candy bars at my local box store cost $1.17 per ounce, which equals $18.72 per pound! Chips are priced around $7 to $7.50 per pound, and a favorite coffee shop typically charges between $4.75 and $8.00 per pound for a morning drink.

We all want to ensure that everyone makes a living wage. However, it’s crucial to take a moment to recognize the importance of supporting farms in the USA. Complaining about the prices of nutrient-rich food is understandable, but we need to value the quality products we receive. We need to inform the current government administration that we do not want beef from another country; our farmers can produce what we need here.

As a cattle farmer, my goal is to deliver a remarkable product to your table that nourishes your family. I aspire to earn a living through my passion for raising cattle on my farm.

In my neck of the woods, the term “homesteading” is gaining a lot of traction lately. When I was growing up, we simply referred to it as farming. But if you’ve ever experienced the dedication that goes into homesteading, you know it’s so much more than just a label. It demands countless hours of labor and a significant financial investment to keep everything thriving. Let’s not allow the current administration to mislead anyone into believing that farmers are out here just to drain your wallet. The reality is, we’re all working hard to nurture our land and provide for our communities!
