Hello, everyone! Welcome back to our Farm Journal! Today, we’re wrapping up our potato season here at Full Circle Farms in Waynesburg, and we have some exciting updates to share!
As we dig up the last of our potatoes for the year, we’ve been really pleased with how our red losada potatoes performed. They thrived amidst the extreme wet conditions in early summer, followed by the dry spells that came later. It’s amazing to see how resilient they can be! 🌧️☀️ On the flip side, our Keenbec white potatoes didn’t fare as well. Unfortunately, they faced issues with rot in the field and ended up with black spots, which was quite disappointing.
This season, Barrett wanted to lend a hand to Granny with the potato picking. Even though he’s little, his enthusiasm is huge! And let’s not forget Henry, who was working hard in the heat. To keep the team energized, we made sure to bring him some water. It was a hot day, but we powered through, determined to finish strong before the short days of fall set in here in Kentucky.
We’ve truly enjoyed growing the red losada potatoes, and considering their yield, I’d highly recommend them, along with the red pontiac potatoes for anyone needing a large harvest.
As for me, I had my own little challenge out in the fields—once I’m down on the ground, it’s hard for me to get back up, so I’ve been crawling around! It’s all part of the fun and hard work on the farm.
