In this video, you can truly feel the anticipation in the air as the farm stands on the brink of a significant transformation. However, that evening, we were blissfully unaware of the challenges that would soon affect our neighboring counties. Henry is filled with joy about his new role as a Junior FFA officer, proudly showcasing the skills and leadership he’s beginning to embrace.

As we carefully laid out the young vegetable plants on the porch, we decided to leave most of them in our covered trailer. To our relief, despite the harsh weather that night and the devastating tornadoes that struck Somerset and London, Kentucky, all our plants on the porch and in the trailer emerged unscathed. However, we did notice that the tomato plants, which had been outside for about two weeks, had been laid over as they were planted in the field. Thankfully, they didn’t break, but they did sustain some minimum damage that could create challenges for us down the line.

Despite these hurdles, the excitement on the farm remains strong. We’ve been dealing with a lot of rain, which has made it difficult to plant effectively. Many of our plantings have been submerged in water, or we’ve had to wait for the ground to dry out. Unfortunately, we’ve also witnessed the onions start to rot in both the raised beds and fields due to the excess water. It’s a tough time for us, but we’re holding onto hope and resilience as we navigate these challenges together.
